Whip and Top (Or "Peerie")
The top is one of the oldest recognizable toys found on archaeological sites. Whipping tops have been found in Egypt from as early as 2000 b.c. and China from 1250 b.c. Tops originated independently in cultures all over the world.Besides toys, tops have also historically been used for gambling and prophecy. To use a Whip & Top one has to whip the side of the top and continually whip it in order for the top to maintain its spin. The top relies on agyroscopic effect for its operation.
