Traditional Toys and Games
Toys and games that children and adults have played over the centuries. Organic activities that change and alter as they are passed on from adult to child through generations. Local variations and rules develop; rhymes evolve that illustrate local events and traditions. Made initially from local materials - girds from wheel rims, marbles from clay, conkers from chestnut trees, rush dolls etc. Some were designed to emulate adult activities, or to improve dexterity and or mental agility, to develop hand eye co-ordination or social interaction. For whatever reason a toy or game developed the common denominator was and is fun!!!
