The four-toed hedgehog is also called the African dwarf hedgehog which points out the fact that it is smaller than its relatives and its habitat extends over vast parts of Africa. Like all hedgehogs, the head and back of the four-toed hedgehog is covered with countless short quills. When in danger, it rolls itself into a spiked ball.
