Hedgehog Pups (Hoglets)
Until relatively recently there was no well established word for a baby hedgehog. Although the word kit had occasionally been used, and sometimes pup or piglet. However, in the early 1990s the word hoglet (or sometimes hedgehoglet) has been introduced. Hedgehogs are born blind. The average litter is 3-4 young. They are born without quills, which develop in the following days.The quills are easily visible within hours of birth. The infants are born with quills beneath the skin, like pimples. Hedgehogs have a relatively long lifespan for their sizes living for 4-7.
